Argentina’s Fabian Ortiz increased his stack by 2.0 million on Day 6 of the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event, perhaps setting himself up for a run at the prestigious November Nine, in a critical pot. Ortiz snap-called a bet from Sergio Castelluccio on a board that read A-2-8-10-6 with three clubs and showed Q-10 of the suit for a flush. Meanwhile, Castelluccio tabled two eights for a set, which were no good.

In the first month of 2009, Ortiz took down a $2,500 No Limit Hold’em tournament during the Latin American Poker Tour’s stop in Vina del Mar, Chile and raked in $141,000, his lone six-figure live score prior to the 2013 Main Event, according to the Hendon Mob. The field of that tournament clocked in at 216 and he was one of three Argentinians to finish in the top eight.

Heading into the 2013 Main Event, he had not cashed for five-figures in a live tournament since February 2012. Perhaps he was just due?

In 2009, Ortiz went out in 298th from the WSOP Main Event for $29,000, showing that he has the chops to compete in poker’s largest and most prestigious tournament.

When 31 players remained in the 2013 WSOP Main Event on Day 6, Ortiz was the lone member of the Argentina poker community remaining. At the time, he had the sixth largest stack in the cavernous Amazon Room at 9.7 million after having shot up his total by 2.5 million.

In another hand on Day 6, Ortiz led out on a board that showed Q-8-7-J-6 and forced a fold from Dan Owen. That pot was worth 900,000 in chips and added to his arsenal down the stretch. He ultimately hit the deck in 17th place for $357,000 after representing a flushon a three-spade board and getting a call from JC Tran, who had just second pair.
