Last week, Denmark’s Gus Hansen (pictured) was announced as the first face of the soon-to-be-resurrected Full Tilt Poker. The site’s Head of Marketing, Sarne Lightman, commented in a press release, “Gus is one of the best-known and most respected names in the poker community. Gus has always embodied the best characteristics of the Full Tilt Poker brand and we are thrilled to have him return as an ambassador.” The site is set to re-launch on November 6.

Does Hansen have any reservations about becoming a beacon for a site that has experienced a considerable amount of turmoil since Black Friday? “I really want to be a part of restoring the brand and helping the new management establish Full Tilt Poker as a leader again,” Hansen told PokerNews. “And most of all, I’m really looking forward to playing on the site again.”

PokerNews asked Hansen about his views on “The Lederer Files,” a seven-part sit-down interview that was released last month. Hansen skirted a straightforward response, instead saying, “I won’t get into any specifics. There were many people working very hard in the past year to try to restore the players’ accounts, get them repaid, and reopen the site. Some of them are still with the company and I am really happy to be working with them.” It’s unclear who the holdovers are and what positions they hold at Full Tilt.

Lightman pointed out that Hansen’s appointment won’t be the only news stemming from what was once the second largest online poker site in the world before a dramatic collapse that included Ponzi scheme allegations: “Expect plenty more news in the comings weeks. More international pros, exciting launch promotions, and the return of Full Tilt Poker as the world’s most innovative poker site.”

News of Hansen becoming Full Tilt’s first pro made its way to PocketFives, where a thread in the Poker Sites forum popped up. A PocketFiver from California speculated that Hansen’s wide-ranging appeal could be the reason behind his signing: “I’m guessing he’s the first since he’s known by so many people, not just people who follow poker regularly.”

The same poster shared who his pick was for the first Full Tilt pro: “I was kind of surprised he was going to be the first one. I figured Isildur1 was going to be the first face of the new Full Tilt after he left PokerStars.”
