If the rest of the PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker(SCOOP) lives up to its beginning, we are in for a rousing month. PocketFivers already finished 2-3-4 in the low-stakes edition of the opening event on Monday. Then, Brazil’s Alexandre Allingomes Gomes won the high-stakes installment of Event #1.

The second event, however, is what really grabbed the attention of the poker community as a whole, as nosebleed-stakes wonder Viktor Isildur1Blom (pictured) took down his first major online tournament title, winning the mid-stakes version of SCOOP Event #2, a $215 No Limit Hold’em tournament, for $247,200. At total of 8,240 runners entered the event, creating a prize pool of $1.6 million and smashing the $1 million that PokerStars guaranteed. Despite the numbers, just 89 players survived to Monday’s Day 2, with Blom sitting in a comfortable 16th place. He worked his magic throughout the day, making moves toward the top and finally becoming the chip leader just before the final table bubble burst.

Sitting the cutoff at a five-handed table with just over 14 million in chips, Blom made a pre-flop min-raise to 400,000. Brink (pictured), who had about 15.9 million, re-raised to 786,433 from the button and Blom made the call after the blinds folded. The two checked the flop of 6c-2d-8c, bringing on the 4s on the turn. Blom checked again, prompting a 784,622-chip bet from Brink. Blom took that opportunity to check-raise to over 2.5 million, forcing a fold from Brink. That took Blom up to just more than 16 million in chips, good enough for the lead, which he would hold going into the final table.

Blom lost the chip lead temporarily at the final table when PokerStars member szwindelgrew his stack to 20.5 million by knocking out lubor74, but when Blom eliminated cloaknetin seventh place with A-K over A-J, he regained the edge with a stack of 29.7 million in chips.

From there, Blom essentially dominated. He flopped two pair with A-9 and eliminated rzr900rzr, who had Q-T, when the latter could not cash in on an open-ended straight draw.

Down to four players, Brink min-raised to 800,000 from the cutoff. After szwindel folded, Blom, sitting behind a stack of close to 34 million, re-raised to 1.9 million from the small blind. RaisingRay91folded, Brink three-bet to 3.2 million, and then it was on. Blom four-bet all-in and Brink followed with an all-in of his own, putting his tournament life on the line.

It was Brink with A-K this time, dominating Blom’s A-Q. The flop ran out Q-7-Q, though, crushing Brink. He had a bit of life when a jack was dealt on the turn, but it was just a tease, as the river bricked. Blom’s stack swelled to 46 million, while Brink was out in fourth place.

Blom took out szwindel to go into heads-up play against RaisingRay91 with a substantial chip lead: 65.9 million to 16.4 million. It only took five hands to end it. Holding Kh-8h, RaisingRay91 was content to four-bet all-in pre-flop and Blom made the easy call with Ad-Jh. The board provided no help to either, but that worked for Blom, as it eliminated RaisingRay91 in second place and gave Isildur1 a SCOOP title.

While this was Blom’s first big online tournament victory, he does have a major live title to his credit. In January, the nosebleed cash game specialist conquered the $100,000 No Limit Hold’em Super High Roller at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, earning a healthy $1,254,400 payday.

Don’t forget, PokerStars is holding a special freeroll on May 13th at 2:30pm ET for PocketFives readers. It’s a winner-take-all freebie for a $1,050 ticket into the 27th event of the Spring Championship of Online Poker.
