Over the weekend, Jordan Jymaster0011Young pulled off a rare feat in the online poker world. The Muskegon, Michigan native won a pair of Sunday Majors on Full Tilt Poker on the same day. First, he came out on top in the Full Tilt Sunday Brawl, a high-stakes bounty event, and banked $105,000. Then, Young was victorious in the marquee $750,000 Guarantee, pocketing another $132,800. PocketFivers were buzzing at Young’s amazing accomplishment, with many posting questions for Jordan during a live forum interviewfollowing his wins.

On Monday, Young told PocketFives.com that he felt “pretty overwhelmed” at the magnitude of his feat. Interestingly, neither tournament was chopped, leading to an even more remarkable pair of victories. Young recalled his mindset down the stretch in the $750,000 Guarantee, which wrapped up after the Sunday Brawl: “I had a decent stack, was in shock about the Brawl, and started not to care what happened in the $750k. I started to spew a little bit and then it hit me – I had a chance to do something that no one had ever done before – so I buckled down and really tried to concentrate.”

Although running well is certainly integral to winning a Sunday major, Young noted that he was in his element throughout the course of the day: “I’ve never been in the zone like that in my entire life. It was like I knew exactly what everyone was thinking at all times and was just trying to exploit that as much as possible. I really had a feel for who was trying to just make a final table, so I was trying to abuse them as much as possible.” In March, Young won the Full Tilt Poker $150,000 Guaranteed for $58,000.

In the August 4th update of the PocketFives.com Poker Player Rankings, Young jumped from #90 worldwide all the way to #51, or nearly 40 spots. He’s #2 behind Frank gator93Hernandez in the Sortable Rankingsfor Michigan and told us that his game has improved tremendously in part due to a daily group chat on AIM. The virtual conversation features strategy from the minds of players like The Lab Rat, Mike telksTelker, and Chris Big Huni Hunichen (pictured).

On the daily gathering, Young told PocketFives.com, “We all get on AIM and start a buddy chat. There is a group of about 40 of us; not everyone is on every day, so usually the group has about 20 in it a day. We just talk about hands and the best way to play them.” He added, “Talking about hands is really important to improving. The most helpful thing that anyone can do is to play a lot of volume.”

Young was turned onto poker by watching PokerStars pro Chris Moneymaker trump Sammy Farha in the 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event. He played in $5 tournaments during his time at Michigan State University and made the transition online at the end of 2008. From there, he explained, “I grinded a lot of 90-man sit and gos to start and was really just trying to pay my bills that I had each month to stay afloat. I started taking shots in the fall of 2009 in mid-stakes tournaments and was having a little bit of success. Around March of this year is when everything just clicked; I don’t know what happened, but everything changed.”

On July 25th, he final tabled the Absolute Poker $200,000 Guaranteed for $14,000. On the same day, he was the runner-up in the site’s $100,000 Guaranteed for $22,000. Since the opening day of July, Young has banked an outstanding $370,000 in tournaments that are tracked for the Rankings in a scant 78 cashes, an average of $4,700 each.

Young wanted to recognize Craig HU4ROLLZBergeron (pictured) and Josh onefingerortwo Kay, who have had a profound impact on his game. Also coming out on the winning end of his streak is Telker, who began backing Young after the 2010 WSOP.
