Calgary, Alberta, Canada poker player Khoa Nguyen drove deep in the 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas. The 29-year-old poker player and businessman was one of two Canadians to reach the final 32 of the 2011 WSOP Main Event and has a college degree in Electrical Engineering. He was an engineer prior to becoming a professional poker player. His 2011 WSOP Main Event run ended in 11th place for $607,000.

Nguyen began Day 7 in 23rd place on the leaderboard, but turned in a strong start to the evening after knocking out not one, but two players in the same hand. Mario Deuce2HighSilvestri and Frank Sinopoli were all-in before the flop with pocket eights and pocket aces, respectively, and up against Nguyen’s wired pair of queens.

What looked like a sure triple up for Sinopoli turned into horror when the flop came 7-5-Q, giving Nguyen a set. As if that weren’t enough, another lady hit on the turn, improving Nguyen to quads and leaving both of his opponents drawing dead on their final hand of the Main Event.

Coverage found on WSOP detailed the final moments of the monumental Day 7 hand: “Nguyen knocks out two with one monster of a hand. Silvestri, who started the hand with fewer chips, finishes 39th, while Sinopoli takes the 38th place spot. Nguyen, meanwhile, is stacking up about 10.3 million at the moment.”

Earlier in the day, Sinopoli doubled up though Nguyen after the latter’s flush draw failed to come through on the turn or river. Sinopoli flopped two pair in the hand and held on for the win.

Heading into the Main Event in 2011, Nguyen had just a handful of cashes in major live tournaments according to the Hendon Mob. He finished 10th in the Main Event of the PokerStars-backed U.K. and Ireland Poker Tour in Nottingham for $9,300 in 2011. Then, he banked $4,600 in a small tournament at the Fox Poker Club in London.
