When he was 20, PocketFives.com member Randal RandALLinFlowers (pictured) became the youngest World Poker Tour (WPT) winner in history by taking down the Spanish Championship last June. On Wednesday night at age 22, added to his legacy by coming away with the win in the Festa al Lago in Las Vegas. Flowers collected $831,000 for his victory in the six-day tournament, whose final table can be seen as part of Season 9 of the WPT on Fox Sports Net.

You’ll recall that Flowers entered the Festa al Lago final table with the chip lead and turned in a run for the ages down the stretch. Twenty-five hands into final table play, Skip Wilson was eliminated in sixth place. Wilson’s chips hit the middle with Q-10 on a flop of 10-6-5 for top pair. Michael benvo123 Benvenuti (pictured) made the call with pocket queens and a running J-2 didn’t help Wilson’s cause. The first elimination of the Festa al Lago final table was worth $112,000.

Three hands later, the group shrunk to four when WPT Legends of Poker champ Andy Frankenberger departed in fifth place. Frankenberger ran pocket fives into the pocket tens of Flowers to stamp his ticket home, as the board ran out A-J-8-4-K. Frankenberger was seeking his second WPT title of the season. If he had been successful, WPT host Vince Van Patten would have had to shave his head as part of a prop bet with WPT Executive Tour Director Matt Savage over whether there will be a dual winner this season.

Recent PokerStarsSuper Tuesday winner Jason JAKoon1985 Koon (pictured) was ousted in fourth place. Koon tabled 6-5 on a K-8-8-9-7 board for a nine-high straight, but Flowers, seemingly a one-man wrecking crew, had him trumped with J-10. Koon banked $225,000 and, after his elimination, Flowers held a stranglehold over the competition; his stack of 7.8 million was more than his two opponents’ combined.

Noah fouruhaters Schwartz (pictured) was bumped in third place after running K-Q into Flowers’ A-Q. Schwartz picked up a gutshot straight draw on the turn, but the river was a blank to send him away. Schwartz earned $345,000 for his impressive run in the WPT Festa al Lago and his elimination gave Flowers a 2.5:1 edge in chips heads-up against Benvenuti.

In the final hand of the WPT tournament, Benvenuti re-raised all-in with Q-7 of spades on a board of 9-6-5 with two spades for flush and straight draws. Flowers deliberated, made the call with 9-3 for top pair, and watched with glee was the turn was the four of clubs and the river was the ace of hearts. At the end of the day, Flowers became the youngest player in WPT history to win multiple titles at the tender age of 22.

Given the wealth of online talent at the final table, it wasn’t surprising to see internet poker pros railing their peers en masse at the Fontana Lounge. Those in attendance included DoylesRoomBrunson 10 member Steve gboro780Gross (pictured), World Series of Poker Main Event November Nine member Joseph subiimeCheong, and UB.compro Billy Patrolman35Kopp. Other members of the online poker community chose to rail the action in a thread in Poker Discussion.
