The run of Robert Corcione in the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event was his first cash in any WSOP tournament, as he finished in 21st place for $294,000. The Massachusetts native, however, has more than $100,000 in live cashes, including wins at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun for approximately $21,000 and $28,000, respectively. His biggest cash came in 2007 for finishing third in a tournament during the Foxwoods Mega Stack Challenge IV for almost $45,000.

On Day 3 of the 2012 WSOP Main Event, Corcione won a huge race against poker pro Zachary Hall. After all of the chips hit the middle pre-flop, Corcione’s A-K beat Hall’s Q-Q on a board of 2-9-7-K-6. After winning the race, Corcione was in a comfortable position with almost 400,000 in chips with blinds at just 2,000/4,000.

On Day 5, Corcione won a huge hand for almost two million in chips against Italian poker player Massimo Musele, with his K-8 dominating Musele’s K-Q on a board of 8-Q-8-7-10. At the time, Corcione catapulted into second place on the WSOP Main Event leaderboard with 3.4 million in chips.

PocketFives Off Topic regular Randy Randers Haddox fell victim to Corcione later in the tournament, much to the dismay of many in the PocketFives community. Corcione, with Q-Q, opened from early position for 40,000 and Haddox 3bet shoved for 500,000 from the big blind with Q-J.

Although Haddox managed to get two pair out of his hand on a Q-8-9-4-J board, he was dominated by Corcione’s trips to put an end to an impressive WSOP Main Event run. Corcione’s chip count jumped to 3,570,000 as a result. Corcione found himself in terrific position to make the final table and was in 12th place out of 97 players remaining going into Day 6 with 3,750,000 in chips.
