For the poker industry, this is one of the special times of the year. PokerStarshas once again rolled out its Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP), offering $30 million in guaranteed prize pools. A few days into the tournament schedule, one of the most notable names in online poker has already solidified his place in the history of the SCOOP.

Viktor Isildur1Blom (pictured), whose tale of online superiority has become legendary, has won back-to-back SCOOP events. The Swedish superstar started off his rampage on Sunday, playing in mid-stakes Event #2, a $215 No Limit Hold’em tournament, and would go on to win the event on Monday. That was just the start of Blom’s day, as he had entered Event #3 while he was completing the task of winning Event #2.

By the way, PokerStars is holding a special freeroll on May 13th at 2:30pm ET for PocketFives readers. It’s a winner-take-all freebie for a $1,050 ticket into the 27th event of the Spring Championship of Online Poker. We’d like to thank PokerStars for bringing this type of value to the PocketFives community. Sign up for PokerStars today.

SCOOP Event #3 was not a battle for the faint of heart. A two-day tournament, the $530 Six-Max No Limit Hold’em event featured an Action Hour, which got the players to open their wallets some more. After this Action Hour was completed, all remaining players had an add-on option to put another 5,000 chips in their stack for an additional $500.

After the smoke had cleared, 486 players had stepped up, generating 740 rebuys during the Action Hour, and 374 players had taken advantage of the add-on. The total prize pool was $800,000, with 54 players divvying it up and $160,000 going to the eventual champion.

The tournament reached the money before the players called it quits for the night on Day 1. After 50 levels, the bubble boy was treezer, who by finishing in 55th place missed out on the minimum cash of $3,600. Two members of the Team PokerStars Pro stable, Eugene Katchalov (64th) and Bertrand ElkY Grospellier (56th), would also fall short of the mark. But, after wrapping up his Event #2 win, Blom would march on to end Day 1 in third place on the leaderboard of the 46 players remaining.

Blom stayed in the mix throughout the action on Tuesday and, as the final table drew near, worked his way into the lead when the six-handed final table was determined. Although he would lose that lead shortly after the final table started, Blom was undaunted and kept the pressure on his opponents. He was responsible for the first elimination at the final table, rivering a diamond nut flush against PocketFiver snake8484 (pictured, who had flopped a small pair), getting Blom back to the top of the table.

Following a short stack battle that saw B4d3m3!st3r knocked out by the pocket aces of Ruxandescu, Blom would continue the attack. In a three-way hand, Blom hit top and bottom pair on a 10-5-J board and was able to get Sussie Smith to commit their remaining chips with an open-ended straight draw. Once the turn and river blanked, Isildur1 could claim another scalp at the final table.

Down to three-handed play, Blom was in the lead, but his aggression was beginning to catch up with him. The dreams of back-to-back SCOOP titles began to fade as his two opponents, BiatchPeopleand Ruxandescu, chiseled down Blom’s stack. At one point, Blom was the short stack at the table, but was able to double through BiatchPeople to get back in the game. Soon afterwards, BiatchPeople departed in third at the hands of Ruxandescu.

During the heads-up fight, Ruxandescu was able to push Blom to the ropes, but could never find the knockout punch. After going under a million in chips, Blom got a double up when his 10-4 turned two pair against the pocket queens of Ruxandescu. Another double up a couple of hands later allowed the Swede to draw even in the fight.

Blom took the lead after rivering a four-flush soon afterwards and he would never let Ruxandescu back in the battle. On the final hand, Blom raised on the button and Ruxandescu three-bet to 132,000, which Blom called.

A J-9-7 two-club flop proved to be all the impetus needed for the two to square off, as Ruxandescu bet, Blom raised, and Ruxandescu shoved all-in. Blom called, showing 9-8 for middle pair, while Ruxandescu showed 6-5 of clubs for a straight flush draw. The board wouldn’t bring a final club, however. Another nine and an eight instead sealed the second SCOOP title for Blom in as many days.

In winning the second title, the forum at PocketFives erupted in congratulations and discussion. Poster bubbleoutcasstated, “He’s the best ever.” McBain74 disagreed, saying, “People said the same thing about Tom Dwan… Now it’s Isildur… In three years, it will be someone else.”

Now, the World Series of Poker looms on the horizon. As this is the first year that Blom will be eligible for the “Big Show” in Las Vegas, perhaps he can add to his legend with some stirring runs at the Rio. Sign up for PokerStars.
