With a trimmed-down hair style, Viktor Isildur1 Blom (pictured) won the $100,000 buy-in Super High Roller event on Saturday at the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure(PCA). The field numbered 30 in the high-stakes tournament, which emanated from the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The Swede’s win was worth a healthy $1.2 million and confirmed that the noted internet cash game guru could hang with the big boys in a major live tournament. He also won a bracelet worth $20,000. Chat about Blom’s win in a Live Poker thread.

Blom told the PokerStars Blog following his signature win, “It feels really good. I have never done this well in any tournament before and I’m really lucky to do so well in this specific tournament. I have worked on my tournament play. In all the tournaments I played last year, I played bad. It feels good to succeed. I really appreciate this win and I love the Bahamas. It’s sick. It feels even better to win here, at this time and at this place. After my PCA win, I’ll be taking it easy for a while and then I’ll travel to a few upcoming EPTs. I’m looking forward to that. After that, I’ll take a vacation for a while.”

In December 2010, Blom signed on with Team PokerStars Pro, although his identity was not known. Last January, he made his public debut at the 2011 PCA and faced off in a special heads-up match against Bertrand ElkY Grospellier. In 2011, Blom exited the $100,000 buy-in Super High Roller event on the very first day, so vindication was definitely in the cards.

As you’d expect with a tournament that has a six-figure buy-in, the field was loaded with brand name players. Blom edged out Dan Shak heads-up after the latter shoved all-in on a board of 9-7-6-Q with two hearts. Blom called with K-Q for top pair and Shak tabled A-5 of hearts for flush and straight draws.

Shak needed to spike an eight, ace, or heart on the river to survive, but the four of spades fell to give Blom the title. Shak took home $846,000 and, according to the Hendon Mob, now has over $3 million in live tournament cashes over the course of his career. Blom had entered heads-up play against Shak with a 4:3 chip lead.

Third place went to former PCA Main Event champ Galen Turk Malloy Hall (pictured), who received $470,000. Hall 3bet all-in before the flop on his final hand with pocket nines, but Blom woke up with aces. The board ran out 5-10-3-J-K and that was all she wrote for Hall. Last year’s PCA Main Event title was worth $2.3 million and he owns another $1.1 million in tracked online poker cashes here on PocketFives. Hall was the chip leader entering the Super High Roller event’s final table.

Despite being roughed up in a home invasionjust before Christmas, former World Series of Poker Main Event winner Jonathan Duhamel (pictured) traveled to the Bahamas and promptly took fourth place in the Super High Roller. Duhamel 5bet all-in on a flop of J-7-5 with two hearts and had the best of it with J-6. Blom called the 5bet with A-Q of hearts and hit his flush on the turn. Duhamel earned $313,000 and seemed not to be rattled by the much publicized robbery.

Duhamel took to Twitter following his elimination, posting, “Lost a huuuuge flip to Viktor to finish 4th… Oh well, good start to 2012 anyway. Very happy with the way I played! Big year incoming.” He added that Day 1B of the PCA Main Event was on tap for Sunday: “Good luck to the 3 left, 3 true gentlemen. Main Event for me tomorrow.”

About 20 minutes before Duhamel’s exit, Daniel Negreanu busted in fifth place for $250,000. Negreanu 3bet all-in pre-flop with A-K and found himself in a race against Blom’s pocket eights. Neither player improved and Negreanu was shown the door. The top five players made the money:

1. Viktor Isildur1Blom – $1,254,400
2. Dan Shak – $846,700
3. Galen Turk Malloy Hall – $470,400
4. Jonathan Duhamel – $313,600
5. Daniel Negreanu – $250,900

Elsewhere at Atlantis, the PCA Main Event drew 418 players on Day 1A on Saturday. Russia’s Alexey Repik leads the 217 survivors, who endured a grueling nine levels of play. A much larger Day 1B field is expected today, which PokerNews revealed will include pros like Jason treysfull21 Mercier, Vanessa Selbst, Negreanu, Shak, Matt Waxman, Eugene Katchalov, and Jen Harman.
