Brock Wilson and Jesse Lonis the Latest PGT Sprint Winners

The PGT Sprint series has continued in Las Vegas this week, with PokerStake players such as Brock Wilson, Jeremy Ausmus and Natalie Ferguson all reaching final tables. With three events now in the can, the series progresses at the PokerGO Studio with several of the world’s finest players duking it out for PGT Points that could earn them a place at the PFT $1m Championship Freeroll in January.

Brock Wilson wins Event #2 for $110,600

The second event of the PGT Sprint series took place in Las Vegas with 79 entries and 12 places paid. The bubble boy in the event was Landon Tice, which helped Josh Arieh scrape into the money places in 12th for a min-cash payday of $9,875. Next to leave the party was Jeremy Becker, whose elimination in 11th was followed by that of Frank Bannan in 10th for the same score of $11,850.

After Matthew Wantman cashed for the same amount in ninth place, PokerStake legend Jeremy Ausmus busted in eighth place for $15,800. Two hands ended his hopes of glory as first, Jeremy moved all-in with ace-king and was beaten by Brock Wilson’s ace-queen. Then Ausmus got the short change he was left with into the middle with AcTd but contrived to lose to Jamie Dwan’s 4d3d despite an entertaining flop of 5c3c2c giving Ausmus a world of outs to chase on turn and river.

After exits for Adam Owen (7th for $15,800), and Andrew ‘Chewy’ Lichtenberger (6th for $19,750), Dwan himself busted, losing with pocket sixes to Jesse Lonis’ pocket eights for $27,650. That hand propelled Lonis up the leaderboard, but after doubling with pocket aces against Martin Zamani, Joe McKeehen’s elimination in fourth place for $37,525 was followed by that of Lonis himself, his ace-high losing to Zamani’s nine-ten when a nice hit the river.

Heads-up, that gave Zamani a lead of better than 2:1 in chips but Brock Wilson has enjoyed one of the best years of his career at the poker felt and wouldn’t be denied. A crucial house-over-house victory with 7h4h on a board of 7s3s3c7c5s when Zamani had a three was pivotal, and when Zamani limp-shoved with As3s, Wilson snapped him off with AcKs and held through the king-high board to take the title and $110,600.

Jesse Lonis Wins Event #3 for $101,000

The third event of the series was one that 78 entrants took part in, with a dozen players again making the money. Alex Foxen was the bubble boy, losing out with ace-three to ace-king too, as PokerStake seller Natalie Ferguson guaranteed profit for herself and all her investors with the dominating hand which held after the money went in pre-flop.

Once inside the money places, there was an elimination at each table, with one featuring a PokerStake player, as Cherish Andrews (11th) and Sean Perry (12th) both left for a score of $10,725. Cherish lost her stack with As9s to Martin Zamani’s Kc8c as he hit a king to take out the luckless Cherish.

After the exits of Zamani himself (10th) and Cary Katz (9th) both for $11,700, PokerGO favorite Sam Soverel busted in eighth place for $15,600. He was joined on the rail soon afterwards by Natalie Ferguson for the same amount as another PokerStake player departed. All-in with Ah5c, Natalie ran into the pocket kings of Jim Collopy, who held despite the flop bringing a gutshot straight draw too.

There was an even more painful exit in sixth place as Patrick Leonard endured a nightmare runout. All-in with aces, he lost to Sam Laskowitz’s pocket kings when a king landed on the river, sending the British player home with $19,500. He was followed from the felt by  Collopy (5th for $27,300) and Brandon Sunshine (4th for $37,050) before the WSOP Main Event finalist Adam Hendrix left in third for $50,700, his AcQs outflipped by Jesse Lonis’ 6d6s.

Heads-up, that gave Lonis more than treble Laskowitz’s chips, and he soon put them to good effect. After agreeing on a deal to smooth out the payments, Laskowitz called with As6h after Lonis shoved with Ac4c. A flop of Tc5c2c left Laskwitz dead on the flop and Lonis claimed his first title in the PokerGO Studio at ARIA for some time.
