Garden City Group Seeks Best Claims Administrator Title, Poker Players Revolt

In a Tweet on Wednesday, the Garden City Group, assigned as the Claims Administrator for U.S. Full Tilt Poker players, issued a Tweet asking for votes to be named the Best Claims Administrator in the New York Law Journal’s 2013 Readers Rankings. Poker players likely had a collective eye-roll when seeing the Tweet, which sparked backlash from several high-profile pros. On Friday, CardPlayer reported that U.S. players could still have to wait one year or more.

InterPokerhas been securely dealing cards since 2002. The recently re-launched site offers a wide array of promotionslike $10 cash free for new players as well as a 25K race for SnG players. WSOP qualifiers are also running now. Check out the new and improved InterPoker.

The first response came from former PokerStarsCaribbean Adventure Main Event winner Ryan Daut44 Daut (pictured), who lashed out, Tweeting, “Whoever is behind this Twitter has some fucking nerve posting this. How long has it been since you were hired to do claims for FTP?” The answer: March. Four months later, Full Tilt players are still separated from their funds.

Daut’s message was re-Tweeted 13 times and seven people marked it as a Favorite. The group that re-Tweeted it included Chris Big HuniHunichen, Ravi govshark2 Raghavan, and Marco from QuadJacks.

Brian Stinger885 Hastings said he’d be perfectly willing to give the Garden City Group his vote provided the company refund his Full Tilt Poker monies: “Full Tilt Poker players have been waiting for their money for over 2 years now. Handle our claims and you will have my vote.” Hastings’ message received 55 re-Tweets, including from poker player Scott Baumstein. A dozen people marked it as a Favorite.

Hastings continued to talk about the lack of movement on the Full Tilt Poker front, at one point assessing, “They were hired by the U.S. Dept of Justice to handle claims repayment. So far, they have done nothing.”

DiamondFlushalso weighed in on the Tweet, questioning, “Why are you using my money to pay someone to Tweet instead of using my money to pay me?” Timothy highlandfox Finne echoed the same sentiments and ten people re-Tweeted DiamondFlush’s message.

One player, Joe Hall, asked whether there was a way to vote against the Garden City Group in the poll rather than for it: “Is there a way to vote against GCG? My family has been waiting for FTP funds for yrs. Please, for my kids.” He then posted a picture of his two children.

The information on the Garden City Group’s dedicated website for the Full Tilt remission process, FullTiltPokerClaims.com, has not been updated since May 29. The Group has consistently said that more information would be available “soon” and that the process would begin “shortly.”

PocketFives called the Group’s Full Tilt hotline on Friday to ask about a time line for player refunds and a representative answered our call after about a two-minute wait. When we asked for an update, our name and phone number were taken. We were then placed on hold and told someone would need to call us back to give us the information we requested. We continued asking what Garden City would tell players who wanted to know when they’d get their money back and, after repeating the same question at least a half-dozen times, we were placed on hold and transferred to another person.

When the second Garden City Group rep picked up, we were told, “We can’t give out any information regarding what we would say to anyone else. We’d be happy to have someone give you a call.” We’ll let you know when and if we receive a call back.

PokerStars purchased the assets of Full Tilt in mid-2012 in a deal worth nearly three-quarters of a billion dollars. At the time, Full Tilt owed $390 million to players, but had less than $60 million in cash on hand. PokerStars spearheaded the repayment of non-U.S. Full Tilt players, while the Garden City Group is overseeing repayment of U.S. Full Tilt players. PocketFives will continue updating the community as we receive more information.
