Isildur1 Rebounds Against urnotindangr in PokerStars SuperStar Showdown

A rematch between PokerStarspro Viktor Isildur1 Blom (pictured) and Scott urnotindangr Palmer in the SuperStar Showdown took place on Sunday. In the first 2,500-hand session, which was held one week ago on April 3rd, Palmer bested Blom to the tune of $5,400. Yesterday, it was time for revenge, as Blom rebounded with $66,000 in profit to go up by $61,000 overall during the two-week, 5,000-hand battle.

Our favorite comment on the latest SuperStar Showdown came from Palmer himself. He has 1,200 followers on Twitter, all of whom were treated to this gem following his battle with the Swedish poker pro now residing in London: “Poker is so retarded. Lost 65k to Isildur today in Showdown and I felt like I played better today than when I won 5k. Variance is so stupid.”

Even after his losing session with Blom, Palmer could not seem to right the ship. He Tweeted, “UGH just played poker for abt 15hrs str8 only to lose around 30-60k.”

The PokerStars SuperStar Showdown rematch, which stretched for 2,500 hands of $50/$100 Heads-Up No Limit Hold’em, was Blom’s from the start. Blom scooped a $21,000 pot after flopping a boat with A-K and watching as his opponent turned a straight. Interestingly, Blom never trailed in the match from that point on.

By the 1,000-hand mark, Blom had stretched his lead to $68,000 and seemingly could not be stopped. Then, as if to add insult to injury, a flush-over-flush situation saw another major pot go Blom’s way. This time, the money went in on a board of 9-7-10-9-3 with three diamonds. Blom held A-2 of the suit for the nut flush, while Palmer tabled Q-J of diamonds for the second best hand.

Text found on the PokerStars Blog explained, “That flush-over-flush hand was somewhat indicative of how things went for Palmer during the first hour and 45 minutes of play, but Palmer would soon get a brief respite from the constant run of bad fortune.”

By hand #1,750, Blom had extended his lead slightly to $78,000 and by the 2,000th hand, the edge was pushed to six-figures.

Palmer went on a mini-run to stop the bleeding somewhat. The PokerStars Blog detailed, “Blom finished the 2,500-hand session $66,607 up for the day and $61,182 ahead over 5,000 hands. The combatants quickly exchanged messages of ‘gg’ and were soon off on their separate ways, both likely in search of still more action.”

The last opponent Blom faced before Palmer, Daniel Negreanu (pictured), also participated in a two-week SuperStar Showdown. Blom split both series and has also recorded wins over the likes of PartyPokerbad boy Tony G, top cash game pro Dan jungleman12 Cates, PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Super High Roller Event winner Eugene Katchalov, and online qualifier Attila DodgyFishGulcsik. He dropped his very first Showdown to Isaac Haxton.

The next SuperStar Showdown has not been announced. In the meantime, PokerStars pros have been focused on the North American Poker Tour (NAPT) Mohegan Sun Main Event, which is currently playing out from Connecticut and will crown a champion on Wednesday.
