PokerStake Seller Brandon Wilson Wins Super High Roller Bowl XI for $1.1m

American poker hero and PokerStake seller Brandon Wilson won Super High Roller Bowl XI in Las Vegas this weekend, beating Nick Petrangelo heads-up for the $1,125,000 top prize. With players such as Alex Foxen, Brandon’s fellow PokerStake seller Jeremy Ausmus and Spanish poker pro Adrian Mateos all making the money places too, Wilson’s victory was his fourth million-plus score of a poker career that now puts him among the top 100 ever to do it.
Painful Bubble for Kristen Foxen
If there was a downside for PokerStake sellers, it was the luckless run of Kristen Foxen. Only five players made the money in the event and, down to six players, Kristen looked good for profit when her husband and fellow player Alex Foxen was all-in with pocket tens covering the stack and pair of Nick Petrangelo with pocket sixes. A six had even been thrown away by another player, meaning that unless he hit running cards, Petrangelo was shooting for the last six in the deck. Incredibly, however, that six came and he survived the river to double-up at both Alex and Kristen Foxen’s expense.
Next to go all-in was Kristen, and she was unable to survive when her ace-eight only managed to find a straight draw on the turn against the pocket nines of the eventual winner Brandon Wilson. That exit meant the next player to leave would earn $215,000 and players were no longer hoping to make profit but instead shooting for the $1.1m top prize and a slice of PGT glory.
The next player to leave was the Spanish pro Adrian Mateos. All-in with king-jack, Mateos had run into the dominating ace-jack of Brandon Wilson. An ace on the flop meant Mateos needed a miracle, and while the Spanish pro hit a ten on the turn to give himself four outs to Broadway, another ace on the river was not the card he hoped for and he departed in fifth for $215,000.

Wilson Gets the Win
It was the popular PokerStake player Jeremy Ausmus (above) who busted next, claiming $310,000 and those vital PGT Points. All-in pe-flop for 695,000 chips with queen-nine, he ran into the dominating ace-nine of Petrangelo as the man who had survived the bubble thanks to a one-outer continued to climb. A nine-high board helped only Petrangelo and Ausmus bowed out, albeit after yet another profitable run.
Alex Foxen busted in third place, cashing for $450,000 when his pocket sevens rad headlong into the pocket eights of Brandon Wilson. An eight and two aces on the flop were all she wrote and Foxen bowed out as Wilson grabbed a chip lead of 4.5m to Petrangelo’s 4m heads-up.
Wilson increased his lead across a brief but intense final duel before the pivotal hand played out. Petrangelo’s pocket sevens were the losing hand as he bet on flop, turn and river to depart as runner-up for $700,000. Wilson had paired his queen but also had a draw to the straight and with that coming in on fifth street, Wilson’s call for Petrangelo’s entire stack was a simple one to seal a victory worth $1,125,000.

Brandon Wilson Rises into Top 100
Brandon Wilson’s latest Vegas victory was his fourth worth $1,000,000 or more and confirmed his re-entry into poker’s all-time top 100 money list via The Hendon Mob. With over $17.8 million in live tournament cashes, Brandon has won very big in recent months, including the best result of his career that came when he finished as runner-up in a Triton 10th Anniversary Special event in Jeju back in March for $2,241,000.
As well as his heroics in the Far East and now in Las Vegas, which acts as his hometown for the Chicago-born poker great, Brandon also won big in Paris this year, capturing $790,000 when he won the EPT High Roller in the French capital. Most of Brandon’s results have come in high rollers, including all of his top 10 cashes of all-time.
Having only started cashing in live events in 2021, Brandon Wilson might well the most successful player in the game who hadn’t cashed live before the COVID outbreak of 2020. The Chicago, Illinois player once again made the gambling capital of the world his playground this weekend, making it his fourth-biggest cash of a career that has well and truly taken off in the past 12 months.
