PokerStars NAPT Mohegan Sun Main Event Kicks Off Wednesday
The Main Event of the first ever PokerStarsNorth American Poker Tour (NAPT) stop at Mohegan Sun begins on Wednesday. The five-day tournament boasts a $5,000 buy-in and only offers one starting day. Play kicks off at Noon ET from Connecticut and a bevy of members of the online poker community are already on-hand to take in the sights and sounds of the Mohegan Sun Casino. PokerStars officials are expecting a “huge turnout” and players must be at least 21 years of age to enter.
Among those on the ground in Uncasville is longtime PocketFives.com member Jonathan Wein (pictured at left), who told us that he’s been extremely impressed with the service he’s received so far: “It just seems like with PokerStars, everything seems to run smoothly. I walked in and there was somebody there to direct me where to go to register. I requested a microwave and a refrigerator through PokerStars and my room already had them when I walked in. I called the bellman and my stuff was delivered within three minutes. It's just so well organized, which is a nice change. It puts me in a positive frame of mind to focus on poker since everything else is so well taken care of."
A welcome party is slated for 7:00pm ET on Tuesday night. After the festivities have wound down, players will head back to their hotel rooms to get a good night’s sleep prior to Wednesday’s “Shuffle Up and Deal” command. After checking out the tournament’s structure, Wein told PocketFives.com, “There are 30,000 starting chips and hour-long levels. It looks like they didn't skip a blind level, at least at quick glance. Whenever there is a 500/1,000 level and a 1,200/2,400 level, you know it's a well-run tournament.” The 500-1,000 level will be the ninth to play out. The blind levels last 60 minutes on Day 1 and 75 minutes thereafter.
On April 12th and 13th, a $25,000 Bounty Shootout will play out from Mohegan Sun. PokerStars staff expect the starting grid to be nine tables of nine players each, with the winners of each table moving on to the finals. Every member of the final table will bank $50,000 and all players will have a $5,000 bounty on their heads. The winner-take-all tournament will play out on ESPN2.
