Sam Soverel Claims Latest PGT Sprint Title as Coleman Goes Close

The latest PokerGO Tour PGT Sprint event ended in favor of the American poker great Sam Soverel. Winning the fifth one-day event of the series for $195,200, Soverel’s heads-up victory came against the long-time PokerStake seller David Coleman, whose run at the final outlasted legends of the game such as Jeremy Becker, Nick Seward and Coleman’s PokerStake stablemate Victoria Livschitz.

Nine Make the Money

With a total of 61 entries, the latest PGT Sprint event saw just nine players make the money, as the final table bubble was also the money bubble. The event, which cost $10,500 to play compared to last week’s events that featured $5,300 buy-ins, was popular with Las Vegas regulars and top-level pros alike. Several PokerStake sellers made it to the business end of the tournament.

It was Nicholas Schulte who ended the event as the bubble player, eliminated by the PokerGO regular Michael Berk. Schulte shoved with 7c7h and was called by Berk with AhTs. A flop of [AdTd6h was a disaster for the at-risk American, and after a Jd turn, an 8s on the river sent him home without return for a deep run in 10th place.

The final table had hardly formed before another player was leaving. Sam Laskowitz was committed with ace-eight but ran into Berk’s ace-nine to perish in ninth place for $18,300. Soon, a PokerStake seller was on the outside looking in, as Victoria Livschitz departed in eighth place for $24,400. All-in with KhJh, she ran into Kuan Han Lee’s AsJs and the Taiwanese player’s dominating hand survived the board to send the PokerStake player to the rail, albeit with a fine return for her investors.

Becker Served Notice

Berk soon took out another as his personal quest to reduce the population at the final table continued. Kent Stephens moved all-in with ace-nine, and Berk called it off quickly with pocket queens, holding to send Stephens to the rail for $24,400 like Livschitz. Lee still held the lead, however, with Sam Soverel closing in as second in chips.

Berk’s run had been impressive, but on a board showing 9h4c3s9s, Berk committed his chips with 8s8c. Lee had raised all-in with Ac9c to prompt that call and held through the 3d river to reduce the field to four players. Berk left with $33,550, while David Coleman battled to stay in the hunt successfully. Put to the test on the river of a hand by Jeremy Becker, Coleman made the call for his entire stack with just ace-high and was right to do so.

Those chips effectively cost Becker a lot of equity and he soon left, his top pair of an ace being beaten by Sam Soverel’s rivered spade flush. Claiming $45,750 in fifth place, Becker’s elimination gave Soverel the lead in the event but not for long, as Coleman doubled up through his fellow American. On a flop of 8c4h2h, Soverel had Ad8d and set Coleman (below) in for his final chips, getting a quick call as the long-time PokerStake seller showed QhQc and held to force his way back into the action.

Soverel Sets Out His Stall

With four players left, Nick Seward failed to add to his PGT titles, crashing out for a score of $61,000. Left with just 5,000 chips after a previous hand, Seward’s six-four lost out to Coleman’s pocket aces, as the podium places were reached. Despite winning that hand, Coleman had the shortest stack of the three, but that was about to change in unfortunate circumstances.

All-in soon after with ace-jack, Kuan Han Lee was in great shape to double through Sam Soverel who called him off with ace-five. A five on the turn changed that, however, and no help came on the river to save Lee. The Taiwanese player cashed for $85,400, as Soverel’s fortune helped him establish a 4:1 chip lead for the heads-up battle to come.

The final hand came about very quickly, and once again, Sam Soverel was the underdog but managed to overtake his opponent. All-in with 8d7d, Soverel was called by David Coleman with AhTs but the PokerStake seller was out of luck as a seven on the river denied him the chance to level the stacks and instead awarded Soverel the crown and $195,200 top prize, with Coleman claiming $122,000 as runner-up.

The victory marked Soverel’s fifth PGT title in 2026 and extended his record total of 18 PGT wins. Here are how all the players finished in the money in the latest PGT Sprint event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
