It’s finally here. The 2009 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) Main Event kicks off this afternoon on PokerStars, the world’s largest site. The $5,200 buy-in feature tournament boasts a colossal $10 million guaranteed prize pool, making it one of the richest online poker events ever held. The contest will run over two days and attract the game’s best to PokerStars. Also beginning today is the $10,300 buy-in HORSE High Roller event, the third High Roller tournament to play out during the WCOOP. Yesterday, PocketFives.com member Matt Plattsburgh Vengrin (pictured at right) made his second final table appearance in a WCOOP event in three days and third overall.

Vengrin took fifth in the $2,100 buy-in WCOOP Eight Gameevent (#42) for $29,000 on Saturday. A total of 245 players took to the felts in the high-stakes tournament, with the top 36 finishing in the money. Vengrin landed in fourth place in the $2,100 buy-in Pot Limit Omaha Six-Max tournament on Thursday for $63,000 and recorded a final table appearance in the WCOOP Razz tournament (Event #2) on the tournament series’ second day, finishing second for $38,000. RugDoctor, who defeated joisoheads-up, ultimately won the Eight Game event, the 42nd on the 2009 WCOOP schedule. First place paid out $107,000.
Also reaching the final table was Kevin grampabumkinMcGuinness, who took fourth in the $215 buy-in WCOOP Razz event for $21,000 two weeks ago. To open August, McGuinness won the $200 buy-in Sunday Night HORSE tournament on Full Tilt Poker for $8,800. McGuinness hails from Yemen and also plays chess. Also playing out on Saturday was Event #41, a $530 buy-in Pot Limit Omaha Heads-Up tournament. The contest attracted 526 entrants, breaking its $250,000 guaranteed purse. At the end of the day, AB_illusive defeated robert07for the title. The victory was worth just over $52,000 for AB_illusive:
