What’s Happening in the Fifth Week of the 2025 World Series?

The fifth week of the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) features 16 bracelet events with buy-ins of between $300 and $50,000. The 56th annual WSOP builds towards next week’s kick off of the Main Event with plenty for everyone, including events in No Limit hold’em, Seven Card Stud and Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw.
No Limit Kick Offs
Four of the first five events to kick off this week feature No Limit Hold’em, with the most popular poker variant starring at the Horseshoe and Paris casinos in Las Vegas. The $500-entry NLHE Freezeout Event #61 begins at the bright and early on Monday morning at the time of 10am, before two 6-max events, the $5,000-entry NLHE Event #62 and $1,500-entry Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw, starting at midday and 2pm.
On Tuesday, the Super Seniors starts, with the $1,000 entry fee exactly the same as that paid by entrants into the Tag Team event. the Super Seniors has traditionally been one of the best attended events, with regular visitors to Las Vegas setting time aside each year to take part in the event. Last year, its winner, Sean Jazayeri, took $368,025 after beating Yucel Eminoglu heads-up.
“I feel great, it’s always been on my bucket list. Hopefully I’ll win a bracelet in an open event, too, but man, this is a dream come true!” he said afterwards.
Always one of the most popular events of the WSOP, the Tag Team event has seen big names win gold in the past on their way to other glories, such as Igor Kurganov and Liv Boeree, as well as Espen Jorstad and Patrick Leonard in 2022, the same year the former went on to become world champion.
PPC Begins on Tuesday
“Emotion, relief, tears, all of it, because it’s really been a long time.”
Also taking place from Tuesday is the $50,000-entry Poker Players Championship. Won last year by Daniel Negreanu for $1.1 million, the bracelet event ended a long wait for glory in Las Vegas for PokerStake player Negreanu, one of the biggest – if not the biggest – legend in the game.
“Emotion, relief, tears, all of it, because it’s really been a long time. This has always been my favorite event.”
Can the Canadian player go back-to-back and take home the Chip Reese trophy again? If not, who is going to stop him? The event will be one of the biggest of the summer and may well end up breaking attendance records in the tournament.
The PPC is the biggest buy-in of the week, but it isn’t the only event that will excite mixed games players midweek. Players with smaller bankrolls can take on the $300-entry Gladiators of Poker event in No Limit Hold’em, while a $3,000 straight NLHE event also takes place from Wednesday at noon.
On Thursday, there is the 6-Max Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw Championship, as well as the Ladies Championship, which, once again, costs $1,000 to play for female players. Male players – or indeed anyone not identifying as female – can play it too, but it’ll cost them $10,000 to go against convention in this event which traditionally opens doors for more female players to enter the game in a friendly environment.
Weekend Warriors Take on ‘Mini Main’
While the $10,000-entry Main Event starts next week, the $1,000 buy-in Mini Main Event begins on Sunday June 29, with the same structure as the World Championship for just 10% of the buy-in. Cypriot player Georgios Skarparis won $554,925 and the first bracelet of his career when he took down this event in 2024 and with no former WSOP bracelet winners making the final 50, this could be a great first tournament to play for debutants in Vegas.
On Friday, players will take each other on in the 8-Max NLHE Super Turbo Bounty event, where there is a $10,000 buy-in $3,000 of which acts as a bounty on each player’s head. The 6-Max Eight Game Mix on the same day will attract a lot of mixed game players, especially anyone who isn’t still in the PPC action.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning the 8-Max PLO Championship which kicks off on Saturday. PLO events have been huge this series and with a $10,000 buy-in not putting anyone off if they love the game, this could be one of the biggest prize pools a PLO WSOP event costing $10,000 has ever seen. Whoever wins it could change their summer and their year in just a few days of four-card poker.
