What’s Happening in the Fourth Week of the 2025 World Series?

The fourth week of the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) features 13 events with entry fees from just $1,000 up to $50,000 in events like the Seniors Championship, the Millionaire Maker and the H.O.R.S.E. Championship just three of those to look forward to. With a brand-new event on the horizon, a Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) High Roller is the biggest ticket in town for a week where a dozen bracelet winners will celebrate victory at the Horseshoe or Paris casinos in Las Vegas. The fourth week of the 56th annual WSOP has something for everyone.
Seniors Continue to Play
“That was my first tournament in Razz.”
The third week of the WSOP ended with an ‘old hand’ of the game celebrating gold. David ‘ODB’ Baker won the $5,000-entry Seniors High Roller for a fourth WSOP bracelet and a first in No Limit Hold’em.
“It’s hard to put into words,” he said moments after he beat Chuanshu Chen to the title. “I’ve always wanted to win a No-Limit bracelet. It’s still about the bracelet because I love the World Series, but it’s also about the money. I mean, $650,000 is a lot of money. I’m going to take this afternoon off, and then I’ve got to decide what I want to play. If there’s something to register for, I play it and I love it.”
While the $646,845 Baker took home for the win will keep him in mixed game buy-ins for a very long time, the poker legend is bound to enter the $1,000 buy-in Seniors NLHE Championship, which kicks off today (Monday). With the high roller setting records over the weekend, you can expect the $1,000 buy-in event to do the same this week.
Also kicking off on Monday is the $10,000-entry Event #50 in Razz. While Razz may not be for everyone, playing the ‘lowest hand wins’ game paid off handsomely for Allan Le at the weekend, as he beat Shaun Dee to the title in the $1,500-entry version of this event. While Deeb would have been desolate to miss out on bracelet number seven, Le was almost speechless.
“PLO is my favorite game,” he said. “I play all of the games, but that one is my bread and butter. Throughout the final table, there were a lot of ups and downs. I kind of just went after every pot that I could. I’m not sure whether that was the best play or not, but that’s how I usually play. That was my first tournament in Razz, so I’m fairly new at it. Maybe I can buy my wife another bracelet after winning this one.”
If you haven’t played a WSOP in Razz, now may be the time to try.
Millionaire Maker Will Make Dreams Come True
“I dreamed about this all my life!”
One of the most exciting events of the whole World Series takes place this week, as Event #53 begins. The $1,500-entry Millionaire Maker made Argentinian Franco Spitale a millionaire as he won a top prize of $1.25 million, the biggest result of his poker career by far.
“It’s still hard for me to believe it,” he said. “You know, it’s too much. Really? I dreamed about this all my life!”
That feeling is bound to hit someone else in a few days’ time. While the players taking part in the $10,000 8-Max H.O.R.S.E. Championship won’t be newbies celebrating their first win if they do take the latest championship bracelet home, it will mean just as much to them, with the format hugely popular so far this summer.
On Thursday, just one event kicks off, the $2,500-entry Mixed Triple Draw Lowball (2-7, A-5, Badugi) event. That one is bound to appeal to the likes of Allen Kessler, who after several cashes, continues his quest to win a maiden bracelet in Las Vegas.
Battle of the Ages
A new event kicks off on Sunday, as the $1,000-entry Battle of the Ages begins. On Flight A, players who are over the age of 50 can compete in No Limit Hold’em. On Flight B, it’s the turn of anyone younger than 50 years old by the time the tournament starts, with both flights combining to play Day 2 and the tournament thereafter. The tournament promises to be a fun one, with everyone taking the ‘over’ or ‘under’ on the side.
While Saturday and Sunday will welcome players to Nine Game Mix, NLHE and Limit Hold’em events, the only way to play PLO throughout the weekend is to take your seat in the $50,000 PLO High Roller Event #57. Players such as Jeremy Ausmus, Alex Livingston, Allan Le, double bracelet winner in 2025 Benny Glaser, PLO specialist Dario Alioto, and Dylan Linde all head into action bearing the PokerStake banner after great starts to the summer.
