What’s Happening in the Second Week of the 2025 World Series?

The second week of action at the 56th annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) features three high rollers, the $10,000 Dealers Choice Championship and a ‘Colossal’ gigantic field event. With 18 events taking place in the next seven days, what’s on offer and which PokerStake players could you win money by backing?

High Roller Season

There are some very big events starting early this week and Event #14, the $25,000-entry 8-Max High Roller Pot Limit Omaha/No Limit Hold’em is certainly one of them. Players such as Patrick Leonard – who finished in the semifinals of the $25,000 Heads-Up Championship for $180,000 just yesterday – and Alex Livingston will be ones to watch.

Tuesday sees the start of another $10,000-entry ‘Championship event, this time in Dealers Choice. Once again, Patrick Leonard will be selling out to the event, and the former WSOP Main Event runner-up Dario Sammartino, Team Lucky’s Matt Glantz, Max ‘The Italian Pirate’ Pescatori, Todd Brunson, Frankie Odell, Jon Kyte, Kyle Miholich and Tyler Phillips and are swinging for the fences too.

On Thursday, a $25,000-entry 6-Max NLHE High Roller event begins, and with some crushers among the hopefuls, legends of the modern game such as Brock Wilson, who is selling at 1.13, and Aram Zobian, who is available at 1.11, are both going to be favorites in the field given their records in five-figure buy-ins events in Las Vegas. Others such as Brandon Wilson, Stephen Song, Cherish Andrews and David Coleman could all bring home another WSOP bracelet for American fans.

Badugi Bandits After Glory

Four players are taking on the $1,500-entry Event #23 in Badugi this week, which starts on Thursday June 5 at 2pm. Heather Alcorn is selling to the event at 1.25, with Jason Lipiner (1.15) and Allen Kessler (1.15) also firing in the format. PokerStake players have a great record in the variant, with David Prociak winning bracelet and top prize of $129,676 in 2024.

The $1,500-entry NLHE Shootout event is always a fan favorite and in 2024, it was won by popular player Daniel Sepiol for $305,849. Also at the final table was Jeremy Ausmus, who reached one of many final tables he reached a year ago, equalling the record set by Phil Hellmuth, a.k.a. The Poker Brat.

In 2025, PokerStake is represented by some top talent in this event, with Daniel Bugson hoping his forename goes back-to-back, selling at 1.20. Eric Zheng (1.15), Erwann Pecheux (1.15), Jake Naumann (1.15), Melanie Pittard (1.00) and Game of Gold star Olga Iermolcheva (1.20) are all hoping to bring back a bracelet from the event. If you haven’t seen Game of Gold, here’s one of Olga’s most memorable episodes.

Other Events Taking Place This Week

With a mammoth 18 events on the WSOP schedule this week, the weekend could yet provide some of the biggest thrills for poker players, fans and in particular PokerStake buyers! The $25,00-entry 8-Max High roller Event #26 has a dream line-up for investors. Renji ‘Ricky’ Mao is fresh from a huge final table score and looking to win big again, selling at a markup of just 1.05, enormous value given his great form.

With Brock Wilson, Aram Zobian, Stephen Song, Cherish Andrews, Dario Sammartin, David Coleman, Galen Hall, Georgios Sotiropoulos, Justin Saliba, David Chen, Dinesh Alt, Fabian Gumz, Jon Kye and Michel Molenaar all representing PokerStake, the event should yield some great returns and deep runs. Who knows, maybe one of them will win a bracelet like the six-time winner Benny Glaser, who scooped gold yet again this week.
